Trinity Lake is 125 feet below the over flow (3ft decrease) and 37.8 percent of capacity (1% decrease).

INFLOW to the lake is -158cfs and 1,207cfs is being released to the Sacramento River.

Trinity River at Lewiston is 447cfs, water temps are 49.3, air 55 degrees at 1:00 p.m. today.

Limekiln Gulch is 4.8ft at 448fs. Douglas City is 2.3ft at 489fs, water temps are 48.2, air 57 degrees.

Helena/North Fork is 8.9ft and 525cfs, water temps 52.4, air 61. Cedar Flat is 3ft at 549cfs.

Willow Creek is estimated at 598cfs, water temps 54, air 57 degrees.

Hoopa is 11.5ft at 653cfs, water temps 57. Mouth of the Trinity at Klamath is 2,543fs, water 58 degrees.

Klamath River releases at Iron Gate are 1,350cfs. Seiad Valley is 2.6ft at 1,520cfs.

Happy Camp is estimated at 1,585cfs. Somes Bar is estimated at 1,760cfs. Orleans is 3.5ft at 1,890cfs.

Klamath at 101 8.5ft at 2,730cfs and water temperatures of 59.2 degrees.

Last week’s temperatures for the Trinity Valley were 90/44 with 0.1inches of rain, for a total of 68.76 inches of rain for the year. October starts a new rain year. Forecasts for the next week in the valley are 73/37 with some overcast in the mornings and sunny afternoon. Cooler temperatures for the last week have dropped water temperatures and made for colder mornings. Hopefully this will start the Salmon moving up the Klamath and into the Trinity. BOR changed the release of the water from Trinity Lake last week which means that the cold water from the bottom of the lake is being used up and the cold water storage for next year could possibly be depleted if we don’t get a good snow pack for this coming winter. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and pray for the best.

As of this last week Trinity River Hatchery shows a total of1, 010 Spring Chinook entering for spawning for this year. The Junction City weir count to Sept. 30: 268 Chinook ’09 vs. 208 for ‘08; 55 Steelhead ’08 vs. ‘08; 151 German Brown over 16in ‘09 vs. 88 in ‘08.

Willow Creek weir count to date: Chinook 1,019 ‘09 vs. 1,676 ’08; Coho 109 for ’09 vs. 71 for ‘08; Steelhead 871 for ‘09 vs. 416 for ‘08. The 2009 fish run just keeps improving each week. We still have yet to see the main run of fish come into the system and Trinity River.

Creel count for Lower-Klamath Fall Chinook: Sport Quota; 3.211 of 15,400. Also 1,833 jacks were harvested. This past week shows that there were some Chinook over 30lbs taken.

Fishing this past week was very hard. In talking with some of the guides up-river they were getting Salmon and steelhead but they were also having days of NO fish. Maybe it was the full moon or the warm water temperatures. All I know is that it was one hard week of fishing both up-river and down stream. Del Loma RV Park were in the same boat, Patrick said that his campers were bringing in maybe one fish per campsite. Patrick fished last Friday and only got 1 Salmon and 1 Steelhead about 7lbs.

Thursday I fished the Willow Creek area and was skunked, Saturday I took some clients down into the Hoopa Valley and we were able to land 2 nice hatchery Steelheads. Jesse Reta of Union City landed his first hatchery Steelhead, 28-1/2 inches that weighed 8-1/2lbs. His son Anthony of Fremont, landed a respectable hatchery Steelhead of 4lbs. We saw many fish both Salmon and Steelhead but they just swam past the boat like we weren’t there. Tonight the moon starts to wane so maybe the fish will slow down and take an interest in what we are offering.

I didn’t receive my usual report from Weitchpec and Orleans so I have no report for that area this week.
