Well I have great hopes of being able to settle the Hoopa problem very soon. As it stand right now you can have access to Tish Tang area by paying a fee of $5.00 per car but the problem is that there is no type of pass yet. Last week I participated in the local elementary schools “Fish Fair”. While attending the Hoopa El school one of the Hoopa Tribal Council members asked me to please come to a council meeting and explain the fisherman’s view about the trespass problem. This sounded very promising to me. So I will be doing my best to present a good paper to the council and hope they will agree to some kind of possible annual pass for fishermen.  If anything comes of this meeting I will publish any new information I get in a special report.

The river flows are dropping at good rate and it will not be very long before there will be some good fishing from the banks of the Trinity! I just got the new Trinity River  Releases for the month of June and starting today flows will be 2,950cfs dropping to 2,500cfs by June 9th and then down to 2,000cfs by June 20. On June 30 the river flows will be down to 1,770cfs.

The one thing I can say for sure is that salmon are showing up in the mouth of the Klamath and I say a Jet Boat come out of Weitchpec with plenty of fresh salmon onboard. So I do know that the Indians are starting to set their nets on the Klamath and they ARE catching spring Chinook.

Fishing:

The Trinity River is seeing the last of the snow melt and springers are moving into the Trinity. For me the river is still a little bit too high for fishing but if one is very careful and can pick a good spot I believe one could catch them some fish. Remember for right now fishing on the Trinity one CAN NOT keep any salmon below the confluence of the South Fork of the Trinity to the confluence of the Klamath. But one can fish above the South Fork and keep 2 salmon per day with 2 in possession. Please check the fishing regulations before you go fishing and be sure of where you are fishing because the new rules and fines are very specific.  I don’t want to hear about anyone being fined for NOT following the regulations.

Right now the spring salmon will go after spinners and one of the better colors are Blur Fox # 5 spinner with red or orange body and silver blade. Another one is#4 or 5 Mepps with silver blade. I find that the Mepps spinner works a little better in the high water but I have heard that Blue Fox has come out with a new spinner that is heavier for the high water flows. I haven’t found any yet but they have been advertised in the Salmon Trout Steelheader magazine.
