Happy MOTHERS DAY to all of you lady fishers out there and I hope you got that new fishing rod or reel you were looking for. If not I hope you all had a good Mothers Day Brunch. I have been out of the area the last couple of days traveling. The river flows have changed and are at 4,500cfs and will start back down May 16th. May 18 the Trinity Flows will be 4,160cfs, May 21, flows will be 3,830cfs and for Memorial Day Weekend they will be 3,500cfs to 3,420cfs, so much for spring salmon fishing on the Lower Trinity for the Holiday Weekend. You must remember the Trinity will still be two salmon per day with four in possession until Sept 1st, and then the new regulations will kick in. There should be some Springer’s moving up into the upper sections of the river by now but the Trinity is closed to the take of spring Chinook from the mouth of the South Fork down to the Klamath until Sept. 1st. I expect that fishing for Spring Chinook should be good some time about the middle of June as that is when the flows will be down to a fishable condition for one to fish from the banks and maybe even drift boats in some of the upper sections. I am really looking forward to hooking a few of those delicious spring salmon soon.
Be sure that you make early reservations for your fishing this year because if you wait to long you just may be out of luck. I know I have already received inquiries about early dates for salmon fishing.

Fishing: The Trinity River is on its way down now and when I was checking it out this morning the river was a pretty green with just a tent of mud in it. For water flows I recommend you go to the TRRP website and check water flows. The BOR has been posting new water flow changes about every tow weeks and TRRP posts them for all to read. With the high water there WILL be some places one can fish but you will have to pick them carefully and maybe re-spool your reel with some heavier main line. You might also want to pick up some heavier leader for the early fishing. For the time being it is going to be bank fishing only. I look for the upper part of the river to be fishable some time around the middle to late June. The lower part of the river could be fishable some time around the 4th of July or a little later.
