Trinity River Spring Flows

The Spring Flows are now starting to ramp down from 6,000cfs and this will mean that the upper Trinity will see a significant drop from the last few days. The problem being that the lower Trinity is still receiving high inflows from the feeder streams and they are adding a lot of water so from Cedar Flat (Hiwy 299 Bridge West) down to Hawkins Bar water flows are still going to be very high. The word is that caution should be used when around the river because the currents are very swift. The water temperatures are also in the low 50’s and is capable of causing hypothermia very fast. Prior to the increase in flows a few Spring Run Chinook had entered the Trinity. I would imagine that as soon as the water flows will allow it one could fish for Springer’s above the mouth of the South Fork. Before you do check the DFG regulations to be sure you are allowed to keep them.

Mothers Day: Tomorrow is Mothers Day and if your “significant other” is a fisher, a nice present, after taking her out to a grand breakfast, would be a fishing license. BUT ONLY if she is a fisher!! Please don’t try this if she is not a fisher.

Trinity River Conditions

As I stated above the water flows are ramping down but that the river is still high in some sections of the river. Memorial Days weekend is coming soon and every one is going to want to come out and try the river especially kayakers and rafters. Please be careful and use caution when rafting or kayaking and above all be sure you know how to use ALL of the safety gear with you and let some one know what part of the river you are going to use.

Coming Up

Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 12th. It will be the Orleans Rod & Gun Club’s 35th Annual “Fish Lake Kids Fishing Derby”. Last year we had 94 kids show up to participate and I sure would like to see close to that many come up this year. School will be out and it would sure make for some great quality family time. I will have more on this in the near future so please be watching for it.

Klamath River Conditions

The Upper Klamath is fishable in some areas but one would have to know the river to determine just what areas to go to fish. I would imagine that above I-5 would be your best chance for any type of fishing. There is still some good trout fishing and with the warm weather this last week there should have been some good hatches going on. You just might want to give it a try for the coming Memorial Day Weekend.
